The Hope Awards Dinner, hosted by Calvary Women's Services, is your chance to meet some local heroes. This intimate dinner honors those who offer hope and empowerment to women in need. Each honoree has done significant work that brings us closer to a community that cares for and supports all people.

Join us for this cocktail reception, dinner and silent auction to benefit women at Calvary who are working to move from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Tickets to the event at $250. Sponsorships are still available.

About the Honoree

Phyllis Caldwell, Chief of the Office of Homeownership Preservation
Phyllis Caldwell has built her career helping others fulfill the American Dream. Through her current work at the Treasury Department in the Office of Homeownership Preservation, she is helping countless struggling families to hold onto their homes. Prior to that she was the President of the Washington Area Women’s Foundation, distributing more than $1,000,000 each year to organizations serving women and girls in the Washington region and working to increase philanthropy through collective giving. She has also worked in community banking at Bank of America. She retired from the bank in 2007 as the President of Community Development Banking, she lead a team of more than 200 people who originated and managed a $5 billion portfolio of loans and equity investments for real estate developments focused on revitalizing urban and rural communities.

Shonda Schilling, Founder of the SHADE Foundation of America
Shonda Schilling is the founder of the SHADE Foundation of America, sharing her passion for skin cancer awareness and sun safety throughout the United States. She and the foundation have been recognized for this work by such organizations as the Environmental Protection Agency, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. With her husband, Curt Schilling, she is a spokesperson for the ALS Association. In addition, she is actively involved with advocacy and education around autism and has written a book, The Best Kind of Different: Our Family’s Journey with Asperger’s Syndrome.


About the Host

Greta Kreuz, ABC7/WJLA-TV
Greta Kreuz is a veteran reporter and Maryland Bureau Chief forABC7/WJLA-TV. She joined the station in 1988 and has covered a wide variety of beats, including education, transportation and religion.  Greta anchored the Channel 7 Morning News for seven years, and she was also anchor of the Channel 7 Weekend Edition. In 1996 she was one of a select handful of American journalists chosen to take part in a broadcast exchange program in Germany, where she appeared on the evening news in Berlin. Off-screen, Greta is very active in the community, serving on various boards and working with her church and other non-profit organizations.


8th Annual Hope Awards Dinner

Calvary Women's Services held the 8th Annual Hope Awards Dinner on May 12, 2009. The dinner honored Sheila C. Johnson and Michel Martin, two local heroes who offer hope and support to women in need.
