Calvary Captain Countdown – 2 days!

“Bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring your friends! There is no better way to spend a Saturday morning than coming together to help others (and have fun in the process).”

Cindy Schwarz is a first-year walker, with a great support team behind her. “My husband and two daughters (ages 6 and 3) will be walking with me. I can’t think of a better experience for small children to see thousands of people standing together to raise awareness and funds to combat homelessness.”

Cindy has volunteered throughout her life at many local non-profits, but she’s particularly dedicated to Calvary. In all her experience, “Calvary is the best managed and the most positive. What I love about Calvary is that so many of the women who walk through our doors work extremely hard with us to rebuild their lives. Over 50% of the women serve ultimately move into their OWN housing with our help. We don’t just provide food and shelter.  We help women overcome their homelessness. Powerful stuff.”

Her most memorable volunteering experience was when a colleague of hers got a Lebanese restaurant to donate food for a meal. “We served tzatziki, hummus, baba ganoush, kebabs and most of the women had never had the opportunity to try Middle Eastern food. Even the women who were a little timid to try it at first ended up loving it and had a lot of fun with the whole experience!”

She’s also planning on showing her Calvary spirit at some other important D.C. events besides the Walkathon: “I’m a HUGE caps fan and love that our red Calvary baseball caps will help me rock the red at our upcoming games!”
