Calvary Captain Countdown – 3 more days!

Swafia Lopez Ames is a first-time walker, but she’s already getting creative about the Walkathon. Today she’s holding a jeans-day fundraiser at her office. For a Walkathon donation, employees can participate in this “casual Wednesday” and wear jeans to work!

Not only is she getting her colleagues involved, her husband and two sons (ages 6 and 9) are walking with her too. “Teaching them to be good and caring citizens for the community in which they live is very important to my husband and I.”

Meet Team Ames!

If you want to get involved, Swafia says, “the Walkathon is ideal since it brings together many organizations that impact the same cause. Calvary is awesome because their programs are results oriented. ‘Every five days a woman moves from Calvary into her own home’ is not just a sound bite, it’s true! Being a part of an organization where you see the difference is uplifting and rewarding.”

A fun fact about Swafia? She’s one of the boys! Between her husband and her two sons, “I am as hooked on Marvel Comics and Disney XD shows as my boys are. I can play a mean game of Wii Super Mario Brothers and NO ONE is allowed to speak during an episode of Wolverine, Batman, Clone Wars or the Avengers!”

Visit Swafia’s Walkathon site!

Still haven’t signed up? TOMORROW is the last day to pre-register online. Visit www.helpthehomelessdc.org and chose Calvary Women’s Services ( DC010) as the beneficiary.
