Tenth Annual Hope Awards Dinner

JC Hayward and Mayor Gray with Executive Director Kris Thompson

For the past ten years, Calvary Women’s Services has honored individuals in the community who offer hope and support to women in need at our annual Hope Awards Dinner. This past Tuesday, we celebrated the milestone 10th anniversary of this inspirational event.

This year, we were joined by Mayor Vincent C. Gray, who shared remarks about his history as a leader in the city of Washington, D.C. and the great need for the services Calvary provides. Calvary Women’s Services was proud to award Partner of the Year to Mark G. Anderson Consultants, who will be working alongside Calvary as we work to expand our programs in the coming year.

One woman shares her story of regaining hope

As always, one woman shared her story of coming to Calvary Women’s Services and regaining hope as she worked towards independence. Calvary was also proud to premiere a brand new video about the organization and the women we serve. The video will be up on our website soon, so stay tuned!

Reporter Britt McHenry of ABC7/WJLA-TV joined us as the emcee for the evening, and former Hope Award honoree JC Hayward led the energetic live auction portion of the evening. The bidding competition was steep, but we auctioned off a vacation in Mexico, dinner with two former Redskins players, a golfing vacation, and a Caps lover’s package complete with a jersey signed by the entire team, and a vacation in Aspen.

We also saw our greatest turnout yet for this year’s Hope Awards Dinner, with almost 200 Calvary supporters in attendance. With the help of these friends and our sponsors, the Hope Awards was able to raise a record-shattering $150,000 this year. Thank you to everyone who made this memorable night possible!
