Transforming Lives for 40 Years, One Step at a Time

2023 In This Together Community Walk Raises $40,000 for Calvary Women’s Services’ 40th Anniversary

Calvary Women’s Services, a nonprofit serving women experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC, had an inspirational day at the second in-person In This Together Community Walk. Over 50 passionate supporters and friends gathered at Anacostia Park to walk together, demonstrating their solidarity for women ending their homelessness for good!

Together, the Calvary community soared past our fundraising goal, raising over $40,000! Celebrating Calvary’s 40th anniversary, these critical funds will enable 250 women to transform their lives through our housing, health, education, and employment programs each year.

Despite the weather’s best efforts to dampen spirits, Calvary’s supporters showed up ready and energized, exemplifying what it means to be a community that is In This Together. Thank you to all those who joined us in-person and virtually. Your presence and dedication made this an extraordinary celebration of our community and Calvary’s 40th anniversary. We are so grateful for the time, energy, donations, and enthusiasm that made this event successful.

Calvary’s CEO Kris Thompson began the walk with inspirational words:

This event kicks off Calvary’s 40th anniversary, which means 40 years of investing and serving women in our community. What that looks like is women who are experiencing homelessness or are domestic violence survivors are able to make whatever changes they need to make in their own lives.

“That’s only possible because people like you do this, come out in the rain, donate, make meals, and support the work of this organization. Thank you for being a part of the work that’s happening, and for creating futures for women ending their homelessness for good.

After meeting other Calvary supporters, making team signs, and enjoying refreshments, participants donned rain gear and headed out for the two-mile walk along the Anacostia River. A massive thank you to everyone who made the walk not just a physical journey, but a symbolic affirmation of our shared commitment to empowering women experiencing homelessness.

If you missed the chance to attend this event, there is still time to give to support our mission! Every donation, no matter the amount, creates a ripple of change.

Check out all the great photos from the event in our Flikr album, tag Calvary when you share on social media, and let’s spread the word about the impactful work happening here.

Thank you again to all of those who made the 2023 In This Together Community Walk a success, and support our mission rain or shine, including our many sponsors.
