An Evening of Inspiration: Calvary’s Ruby Jubilee Recap

Calvary Women’s Services officially celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Ruby Jubilee: A Special Home for the Holidays Celebration. This cherished annual tradition reached new heights as the organization brought together supporters and dedicated staff to reflect on four decades of service and prepare for the growth the come.

Calvary rolled out the ruby red carpet to welcome individuals who have supported the organization for years. Festivities kicked off with a slideshow that took guests on a journey of Calvary’s many different milestones, reflecting on the lives transformed through our programs. Guests also enjoyed seasonal food and beverages, while bidding on a mystery wine auction and reconnecting with fellow members of the Calvary community.

Caitlin Sickles, Vice President of Calvary Women’s Services’ Board of Directors, welcomed attendees with inspiring words:

“This holiday season is a joyous time, but it is also a time of uncertainty for many people. We all know that there is much devastating conflict in our world and people here in our community are struggling as well. This knowledge, perhaps, makes this evening even more significant and special. Maybe it gives us a greater opportunity to reflect with thoughtfulness and gratitude for the safety and security of our own homes, and for the privilege of knowing peace.”

“For forty years, Calvary, and you, our community of supporters, have been investing in women, providing that safety and security for them and offering peace and hope,” Caitlin continued. “Calvary knows that when women have the tools they need, they will thrive. After all, 90% of women who secure employment with Calvary’s support are able to move into their own homes. What a legacy for our first forty years!”

Kris Thompson, CEO of Calvary Women’s Services, also highlighted the success of the organization:

“We’ve come a long way from a basement in Calvary Baptist Church to an organization that provides housing and support services to over 250 women through six housing programs,” Kris began. “The success of Calvary’s programs really can be attributed to the unwavering support of staff and volunteers and supporters, and of course, to the women who are in our programs, transforming their lives each and every day.”

Together, attendees watched Verlette’s story and reflected on the community Calvary has built where women feel supported and support one another.

After the video, Kris concluded her remarks, “Tonight, as we reflect back and look ahead, I’m here to tell you that this organization will remain steadfast in its vision where every woman in Washington, DC, has a safe and stable place to call home…. Calvary is in the position to serve more women than ever before in the year ahead. We can and will continue to close the gap that exists in our city, but only if we act, and only if we keep showing up for women who need it most.”

To take action today, we invite you to make a gift to our 40th anniversary fund or become a monthly donor through our Partners for Tomorrow program.
