WASHINGTON, DC — October 2, 2026 — Calvary Women’s Services will host its 7th Annual Community Walk & Fun Run on Saturday, October 3. Each year, the event is held at Anacostia Park, in the same neighborhood as Good Hope, Calvary’s largest housing and program site.
The walk also comes at a significant time, taking place at the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For many women, leaving an abusive situation can also mean leaving their home and facing a period of homelessness, a reality Calvary sees among many of the women who walk through its doors.
Calvary empowers these women to end their homelessness by providing housing, health, employment, and education services.
“For over 40 years, Calvary has been a place of safety, healing and a source of support and empowerment for women fleeing domestic violence and experiencing homelessness,” said Kris Thompson, CEO of Calvary Women’s Services. “Our vision is clear and our model works.”
That work has continued to grow alongside the need. “In the last five years alone, we have more than doubled our housing available to survivors and employed a trauma-informed care model that changes women’s lives,” Thompson said.
Calvary aims to raise $60,000 through this year’s Community Walk & Fun Run to support its programs for women across the District.
“Every five days, a woman at Calvary moves into a home of her own,” said Kris Thompson, CEO of Calvary Women’s Services. The Community Walk & Fun Run helps ensure more women have the resources and support they need to reach that milestone.
Calvary has invited a broader network of organizations that support people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence throughout the District. Miriam’s Kitchen, the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and My Sister’s Place will table at the event, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about their work and connect with resources in the community.
The event begins at 10 AM at Anacostia Park on Saturday, October 3. Supporters outside the DC area can also participate as virtual walkers.
