Meet Our Summer Intern!

AlissaAlissa Weinman is joining Calvary this summer as an intern with the ExxonMobil Foundation Community Summer Jobs Program; she’ll help with the volunteer program, Life Skills, Education and Arts Program and more! We are so happy to have her here and would love to introduce her to you.

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’ve lived in Wheaton, MD all of my life but now spend most of the year trying not to freeze in Wooster, OH. I’m an Anthropology and Environmental Studies major at the College of Wooster and hope to someday work towards increasing nutritional food accessibility and food security in low-income areas. Right now though I’m content just being a college student!

How did you first get involved with Calvary?
When I was looking for an internship for the summer I knew I wanted to work directly with people as part of a team. The internship position here was presented as just that, as well as seemed to really encourage the intern to explore their interests while interacting with the women here at Calvary. The rest is history!

What is your favorite thing about working at Calvary so far?
It is so refreshing to walk into an office and see all the staff work so cohesively together! Everyone here seems to have strengths that play off of each other really well and it’s great to see.

What would you tell someone considering getting involved with Calvary?
Well I haven’t been here very long, but I would tell anyone who is considering getting involved with Calvary to define a skill or interest that they have and find a way to apply it to a LEAP class because everyone has a unique thing they can share with someone.

If you had to choose ONE word to describe Calvary, what would it be?
Purposeful.

Share a fun fact!
I don’t know if this is a fun fact, but I really don’t like Panda Bears. If you’re willing to listen I have a rant prepared and ready.

Last thought?
I’m excited to work with y’all this summer!
