When Art Supplies are a Treasure

Women at Calvary crafting with donated supplies

When Elaine Johnson, Calvary Women’s Services’ Life Skills, Education and Arts Program (LEAP) Coordinator, joined the staff this spring, one of the great surprises was closet full of craft supplies. Calvary supporter Ellen Weeren had recently donated a large supply of scrapbook paper, cardstock, stamps, stickers, scissors and more to the growing program.

“What a wonderful thing it was to show up for my new position as Education Coordinator and find such a treasure of crafting supplies onsite,” Elaine said. “We have used the beautiful papers, stickers, and stamps to make Mother’s and Father’s Day cards, cards for newborn grandchildren, and cards for high school graduates. We have covered journals and made collages with them as well, and I have seen friendships form in the process.”

Ellen was happy to learn that the supplies have made such a difference, saying,

“I am thrilled that my surplus supplies helped make another woman’s day even a pinch better. I am sure there are so many hidden talents among the women you are helping, and I hope the little bit I donated will spark more creative spirits to shine brightly in their own darker moments.”

As LEAP continues to grow, Elaine notes that the classes would love to have blank journals, watercolor paper, and ink pads for stamps. If you would like to contribute supplies, please contact Elaine at ejohnson@calvaryservices.org or make a donation to Calvary in support of LEAP.
