Calvary Women’s Services to Host “Help the Homeless” Walk

On October 27, local nonprofit Calvary Women’s Services will host a community walk as part of Fannie Mae’s Help the Homeless Program. The walk is one of hundreds that will take place in Washington, D.C. and across the nation this fall as part of the Program. These walks give participants a chance to raise funds and promote awareness about homelessness on a community level.

There are over 6,500 people in Washington, D.C. who are homeless. Since 1988, the Help the Homeless Program has raised over $90 million to support local organizations that are working to prevent and end homelessness in the DC area. Last year, more than 115,000 walkers participated in the program.

Calvary Women’s Services is one of 76 local nonprofits selected to benefit from the program. Since 1983, the local nonprofit has offered housing and comprehensive support services for women working to move out of homelessness and live independently.

Volunteers, donors, members of the Board of Directors, and other supporters of Calvary Women’s Services will gather at the site of Calvary’s program on the morning of Saturday, October 27 to walk. The event will not only raise funds to help end homelessness, but also build awareness on a local level through activities aimed to educate walkers about homelessness in their community and what they can do to help.

“We are so glad to be able to invite all our supporters to come together for this annual event that has become a tradition for Calvary,” says Calvary’s Executive Director Kris Thompson. “It’s so wonderful to see the community come together not only to raise funds to support our programs, but to learn about the growing problem of homelessness in our city.”
