Renowned Designer Nina McLemore Hosts Reception for Calvary Women’s Services

Fashion designer Nina McLemore – whose clothing has been worn by some of the world’s most influential women – hosted a reception at her boutique in Chevy Chase, Md. last night to benefit Calvary Women’s Services.

Customers who shop at the Nina McLemore boutique in Chevy Chase through November 16 can donate 15 percent of their purchase by designating Calvary Women’s Services. Nina will be at her Chevy Chase store this Saturday, November 8, to offer personal styling consultations.

During the reception, Nina gave a presentation on the importance and techniques of creating a powerful impression before a crowd of Calvary supporters and members of the community. “My mission is to create clothing that helps women at all levels feel confident and beautiful, and help them achieve their full potential,” she said.

Reception guests donated gently used professional clothing for women enrolled in Calvary’s new Step Up DC job placement program. Step Up DC connects women in Calvary’s transitional and permanent housing programs to job opportunities in the DC area, allowing them to reach their goals of financial stability and independent living.

“One of the things women are working on in Step Up DC is how to present themselves with confidence. The professional clothing that was donated will give women that extra boost of confidence when meeting with potential employers,” said Kris Thompson, Calvary’s executive director.

McLemore’s professional clothing has been worn by leaders including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, PBS NewsHour co-anchor Gwen Ifill, Federal Reserve chairwoman Janet Yellen and Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Last night’s reception was co-hosted by Ms. Janet McDavid, Ms. Karen Rodd and Ms. Cindy Schwarz.
