Volunteer Spotlight: Lynnie Moore

Lynnie Moore supervises Calvary’s computer lab one Saturday morning each month.  Lynnie answers questions that women have about using computers, supports them in sending e-mails and submitting job applications, and is a friendly, helpful face for women who might be intimidated by using the computers. Having a monthly, dedicated computer lab volunteer allows women at Calvary to have an alternate time (outside of weekday education classes and job-search sessions) to use the computers.

Lynnie is just rounding out her second year in this role and we’re so grateful for her energy and commitment to women at Calvary.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Connecticut but have lived mostly in DC for the last 10 years

Share a fun fact about yourself!
I was in the Peace Corps and lived in Kyrgyzstan for two years.

How are you involved at Calvary Women’s Services?
I facilitate the monthly Saturday computer lab hours.

How did you first hear about Calvary?
From a former colleague who volunteered at Calvary – she had such great things to say about it!

Why do you volunteer at Calvary?
It gives me a chance to use what I know to help an amazing group of women! My work schedule can be unpredictable, so it’s also nice to have something I can do consistently on weekends – plus, it’s a lot of fun!

What do you like best about your work with Calvary?
I love getting to meet the women here,  getting to know them over time, and feeling like part of a community at Calvary.

What has been your most memorable experience at Calvary?
My first visit was really memorable. I was so impressed with the facility and the staff, but especially with the residents and how much the women at Calvary support each other.

What has surprised you most about volunteering at Calvary?
Even though the women I work with on weekends are usually hard at work on job applications, it’s not all serious – we have a lot of fun talking about the news, movies we’ve seen, and what we’ve been up to.

What would you tell someone considering getting involved at Calvary?
It’s a really special place, and a great way to meet some really inspiring people.
