Kicking off the 23rd Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon

The 2009 Calvary Walkers

Have you been looking for an active way to make a positive impact in your community this fall? The Help the Homeless Walkathon is right around the corner! This year, the 23rd Annual Walkathon will take place on Saturday, November 20th at 9 a.m. on the National Mall. Join Calvary’s Team, and in just two hours on one November morning you can impact the lives of more than 12,000 people affected by homelessness in the D.C. area.

If you’ve walked before, we hope you will be joining us again this year! If you have never been a part of the Walkathon before, the Calvary Comments blog will fill you in on the details.

The Calvary Captains – Calvary’s volunteer leadership team for the Walkathon – met last week to kick off the 2010 event. As part of our Walkathon Kickoff, we want to bring you the story of one of our outstanding volunteer Captains.

A Washington, D.C. native, Josiah Lambert is an indie rock DJ on satellite radio. For Josiah, a dedicated Calvary Women’s Shelter volunteer, this will be his third year walking with us at the Walkathon. After spending numerous overnight shifts at Calvary Women’s Shelter this year, he particularly looks forward to this event.

Josiah sees the Walkathon not only as a way to raise funds to support Calvary’s vital services, but also as an opportunity to spend time with the residents outside of the Shelter environment and walk alongside them to proudly support Calvary’s cause. In fact, this year, he has volunteered to help lead Calvary women from the Shelter down to the National Mall where the Walkathon will step off on November 20th.

If you watched WUSA 9’s profile of Calvary a few weeks ago, Josiah’s name may sound familiar – he was interviewed as part of the segment! In case you missed it, you can still catch the video here: http://bit.ly/9pyFhl

We would love to welcome you to the Calvary Team too! Please register at www.helpthehomelessdc.org and mark Calvary Women’s Services (#DC010) as the beneficiary organization. Registration is only $15 for youths (25 and under) and $25 for adults… and every dollar we raise through registration fees and donations goes directly to support Calvary!

For more information, you can check out Calvary’s Walkathon page, or find event details on our Facebook page.
