Calvary Captain Countdown – 14 Days!

“It’s hard to think of a better way to spend a beautiful fall morning, and by 11 a.m. you’ve been part of something special that raised money for an issue that’s so important in Washington.”

Last year – also her first year on the Calvary Board of Directors – was Alli Tombros Korman’s first year walking to benefit Calvary. Although she had walked in the past, she had never walked to support a specific organization until then. “It was really meaningful to walk in support of Calvary, knowing all the amazing work that’s done there and the many comprehensive services and programs I’d be supporting.”

One thing in particular Alli enjoys about the experience? “It’s great to meet with the other Board members and Calvary staff, and so fantastic to meet the residents of Calvary when you’re serving a meal there, but the Walkathon is fantastic in that it brings together all the people who care about Calvary in one place, at one time, for a common goal. It’s a great way to meet the many people who care about and support Calvary in so many different ways.”

Not only does Alli love that she’s helping support a great cause, it also gives her a unique opportunity to reflect on the city she lives in: “I go past the Mall and the monuments almost every day, almost to the point where I don’t even notice them, but doing the Walkathon really makes you slow down and appreciate what you have right in your backyard. It’s a great way to enjoy the city while doing good for others.” Maybe part of the reason Alli loves being outdoors in the city has to do with favorite book – A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Her mother gave her the book when she was in fifth grade – “I’ve probably read that same copy 50 times or more!”
