Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC Hosts Virtual Workshop with Step Up DC

Last month, Calvary Women’s Services was excited to welcome Nellie Mercado from the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, to lead a workshop through our Step Up DC employment program. For the past few years, the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC has partnered with Calvary as part of Step Up DC’s Career Fairs. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to host in-person events for participants in this program and have worked with our partners to connect women virtually to potential employers, as Nellie did.

During this hour-long workshop, Nellie shared details about the application process and tips for interviewing. Women were able to ask questions about specific jobs at the hotel and learn more about about application steps and what the Four Seasons is looking for in candidates for these roles. The workshop empowered women to feel confident as they apply for these jobs and connect with the hiring team at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Nellie shared, “Being able to have a one-on-one workshop was great because I was able to better connect with the women and see how they were engaging with us. It was great seeing women taking notes and asking questions.” She continued, “We were not only looking to fill positions but also be able to share tips from the hiring process and support them as they work towards their career goals.” For Nellie, this workshop was not only about recruiting women for open positions but about the greater support she could offer to the women at Calvary.

After the workshop, one participant commented, “The career workshop was very informative and helpful, and it was a great chance to hear directly from Ms. Mercado about the hiring process and interview tips. As a result, I have a better understanding of the current positions available and am thankful for her encouragement.”

Creating partnerships with local businesses is just one part of the Step Up DC program. From resume support and practice interviews to connecting women directly with local employers, Step Up DC supports women in navigating the entire job hunt process as they work to secure employment.  Nellie is excited to continue the partnership between the Four Seasons Hotel and Calvary, saying, “You can feel a genuine sense of care at Calvary. We are very proud of the reputation we have for creating a sense of care for guests and employees, and it is clear that Calvary has those same beliefs.”

Angie Lee, Calvary’s Workforce Development Manager, noted, “We were so pleased to virtually meet and talk with Nellie, who willingly shared HR perspectives and insights with the clients at Calvary as job seekers. It is a huge motivation for the participants when they look for more options for their careers. We appreciate the continued support from Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC!”
